Because I hold fast to beliefs
and established my own independent way of life
It's not very surprising to find out
When things happen different, I suddenly feel it's not right
Granted, I love throwing parties
And in life, we never know what's next
But I suppose coping with the unsuredness of life
Is my life's enduring test
See, with surprises you can't
And you can't hear when things have changed
Forget about your God-given senses
Because there are bigger forces that overwhelm and cannot be contained
Imagine one day, when you return home
Your greeting is met with words unsaid
A parent's lips are eternal silent
When death makes a visit in the still of a bed
Anything can happen in a second
And you can move mountains in a millennium
Is it a bigger surprise that generations survive
Or they lost their identity with each new sun?
How would your ancestors feel
As they have seen all deteriorate over time
When the next generation grows void of culture
And leaves their roots lost and behind
When you assert that something's meant to be
Fate intervenes and says otherwise
So what's the point in taking stock in the unsure
Since it will be ruined by another bad surprise
What happens when a lover's feelings are suddenly unreturned
After years of security
It's hard to understand the change and cope
Whatever reasons for his abandonment may be
I think the worst surprises of all
Are the things you learn when you didn't mean to
Whether it's the unexpected or the unwelcome
It still hurts when surprises hit you out of the blue
Observe a doe-eyed girl
Inexperienced, but not naïve about life's expectations
But then she discovers her love's deviance
And she's not enough to deter experimental addiction
So think again when you say surprises
Are all fun and games
The next time you get surprised
I promise you'll never be the same
It's not easy
Trying to go back to the way it once was
So think again
